Village Yarn Bombing

What is yarn bombing? It’s a type of street art using knitted or crocheted yarn or textile fabrics to decorate things that need brightening and to bring joy and smiles.

Who are the yarn bombers? They’re shy and like to keep their identity secret! But anyone who can knit, crochet or sew can join in, so more crafter volunteers are very much welcomed!

What has been yarn bombed so far? The little post box on the corner of Henson Lane was the first part of our village to be yarn bombed for Easter 2025. If you’d like to knit an Easter Chick for next year, download this pattern.

What’s next? The yarn bombers have already started to create poppies to decorate the bigger post box on Westminster Drive for Remembrance Day in November. But they need help creating as many poppies as possible to make a spectacular display. Any style of knitted, crocheted or fabric poppies that can withstand being outdoors in the wind and rain are needed. So, it would be great if any crafters could make a poppy or two, to any skill level.

Poppies are quite often red but other colours are used too - purple, black and white - that have different meanings. You can read more about this on the BBC website.

There’s a wealth of free patterns and tutorials that can be found on t’internet but here are a few for starters, which can be made in any of the four main colours:
