Consultation Decision
January 2023

We are very pleased to share the news that on 9th January 2023, the new parish of Upper Saxondale was formally constituted within the Borough of Rushcliffe, to come into effect on 1st April. This means the community of Upper Saxondale will cease to be divided between the existing parishes of Radcliffe On Trent and Cropwell Butler. Below is a map of the Upper Saxondale parish boundary.

The next step is the election of our parish councillors as part of the local government elections being held on 4th May 2023. You may wish to stand as a parish councillor to represent our community and help to shape and develop its future. In any event you will be able to vote if the election is contested, i.e. if there are more candidates than the seven councillors that we are permitted.

If you have any questions relating to the parish council then please contact USRA via info@uppersaxondale.com.

In preparation for the local elections, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) have asked us to make residents aware that they will be holding an on-line event (using Microsoft Teams) for potential parish council candidates on Wednesday 1st March, 10:00-11:30am. This event will inform candidates about what they need to do to submit a nomination, key dates and changes to elections this year as well as detailing what information RBC will provide throughout the election period. Anyone wishing to attend please email elections@rushcliffe.gov.ukgiving their name, parish and email address by no later than Friday 17th February.

If you are considering standing for election, you may be interested to know more about the main role and responsibilities of a parish councillor. As well as attending regular meetings, it includes:

  • Influencing and shaping the long term development policy for the parish

  • Commenting on planning application within the parish

  • Being responsible for setting budgets and managing expenditure

  • Working towards improving the quality of life and the environment in the local area

  • Identifying issues which are important to the lives of the parishioners you represent and responding to their questions/comments/suggestions

  • Liaising between Borough and County Councils on parish issues

You can find more detailed information on RBC’s website Stand for Election which includes a link to their Become a Councillor information pack.

Finally, thank you for your support and encouragement throughout the parish consultation process. We hope you agree that this is a positive result for our community.

Best wishes,
Ian Storey
